Controlled PWHT Solutions for Welded Steel Components

PWHT relieves excessive stress in welded steel assemblies while refining microstructure and improving toughness and ductility. Integrated with fabrication, it supports fast delivery of large tank and vessel sections - shell plates, nozzles, manways, and inserts - with all work compliant with API 650 and industry inspection standards.

PWHT Capabilities and Processing Advantages

Premium Plate performs post-weld heat-treating services in a dedicated, controlled oven engineered for large assemblies. A dedicated 48 ft oven takes a full weldment in one load, so a shell section is not cut down or treated in stages – which is what keeps the metallurgical result uniform across the weld and the parent metal. Heat-up, soak, and cool-down follow the rate specified by the applicable code for the material and thickness, and the cycle is recorded for the inspection file.

Specifications:

Parameter Specification
Oven 11 ft H × 14 ft W × 48 ft L
Loading 50-ton crane
Materials Carbon and stainless steel
Parts Shell plates, nozzles, manways, inserts, complete welded assemblies
Codes API 650, applicable ASME sections, client specifications
Control Calibrated thermocouples, programmed heat-up / soak / cool-down rates
Documentation Time-temperature chart and PWHT certificate per load
Integration Plate supply, cutting, beveling, forming, rolling, coating in-house

Benefits:

  • PWHT relieves residual weld stress and reduces the risk of cracking and distortion in service.
  • Ensuring the uniform metallurgical properties across welds and parent metal.
  • Improving dimensional stability and providing long-term durability with better structural performance.
  • Reducing rework and accelerating field installation when combined with in-house cutting, forming, and coating.

FAQs About Post Weld Heat Treat

Yes. PWHT integrates with plate supply, cutting, beveling, forming, and coating for single-source fabrication with less handling.
Both - Premium Plate treats single plates and welded assemblies (shell sections, manways, nozzles) to API 650 requirements.
Premium Plate’s PWHT oven measures 11 ft × 14 ft × 48 ft and is served by a 50-ton crane, accommodating large shell sections, nozzles, and inserts.
A time–temperature record for the cycle plus a certificate referencing the applicable code, suitable for the third-party inspection file.
A PWHT quote needs the material specification, weld thickness, dimensions, required temperature range, and applicable code.
When the code or the project specification requires it for the material and weld thickness – typically thicker carbon steel welds, pressure-containing parts, and assemblies that must resist stress-corrosion cracking in service.
PWHT is performed to API 650, ASME, and client-specific code provisions for tanks and pressure-containing parts.
